Yours,
Stockholm Highlights Tour with Vasa Museum
The Stockholm Highlights Tour will take you on a magical journey through the main sights of this Scandinavian city. Your day will start with a short panoramic drive through Stockholm. If your cruise ship docks in Stadsgården port, you will first take a ride through Södermalm, Stockholm’s biggest island. If your ship docks in Frihamnen port, you will have a panoramic drive through the popular recreational areas Gärdet and Djurgården.
Upon arriving in Djurgården, you will pay a visit to the Vasa Museum, which houses the oldest fully-preserved ship in the world. On her maiden voyage in 1628, the warship had been sailing for less than 20 minutes before the wind caught her sails and toppled her. Three centuries later, in 1961, she was finally raised from the mud of Stockholm harbor, along with 12,000 accompanying artifacts. You will explore the museum’s other exhibits and displays of historic items recovered from the harbor.
A scenic drive will take you through Östermalm, the posh district of Stockholm, along Strandvägen, Stockholm’s most beautiful boulevard with hundreds of boats on one side and elegant buildings on the other. From the bus, you will see sights such as the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Raoul Wallenbergs Torg, Kungsträdgården, Riksdag, The Houses of the Swedish Parliament, The Royal Palace, The Royal Opera and much more.
You will then continue on to a 45 minutes guided tour and walk through the charming Gamla Stan, Stockholm's Old Town. You will learn about tales and historic facts filled with Vikings, merchants, kings, and queens. You will pass by the Royal Palace and make your way through the streets of the city. You will also see Storkyrka, the Finnish Church, and the tiniest public sculpture of Stockholm, the Järnpojke.
In the Old Town, you will have some free time on your own and you will be able to do some shopping, explore the area or have lunch. Your guide is always happy to help with suggestions.
Refreshed and with new energy, the second part of the Old Town walk starts, and you will pass Stortorget (the Old Town Market Square), the Nobel Museum, Tyska Kyrkan, and Stockholm’s narrowest alley.
The tours come to an end with a drive back to your cruise ship.
